Jury Trauma // NYT
This commission, shot for The New York Times was part of an article about how jurors—especially in violent or emotionally disturbing cases—can suffer lasting trauma long after the verdict, and how our judicial system often fails to provide aftercare. Although Joselyn didn’t appear in the final piece, I appreciated meeting her and hearing her story. It’s baffling that ordinary people can spend months serving on trials where they’re exposed to deeply traumatic material, without any follow-up support. During the process they’re also prohibited from discussing the details with anyone outside of the jury room. Hopefully, by raising awareness, judicial systems will begin to implement the care and resources jurors deserve.
