The Knock feature // Guardian Weekend magazine

The Knock feature for the Guardian Weekend magazine. The article looks at the affects on the families left behind, after a loved one is arrested suddenly for viewing and/or downloading child abuse images online. The title is the terms families use to describe the moment when their world falls apart. Due to the sensitive nature of the issue of the article, I was asked to create a series of anonymous portraits to protect the subject from repurcussions.

I really enjoyed this process. I had to change my usual approach to commissions by researching ways in which this could be done. I had access to the article before the shoot, as well as text the subject had previously written. From these I got a sense of the loneliness and isolation she felt but at the same time it struck me how resilient she must be and I hope this is reflected in the portraits.
