A recent commission for STAT News about the recent Dana-Faber institute research scandal, which was uncovered by Dr. Sholto David. a biologist living in Wales.

David has a PHD in cell and molecular biology from Newcastle University and in his spare time, enjoys finding errors in scientific papers. This obscure hobby recently let to a furore after the Havard- affiliated Dana Faber institute- one of the leading cancer research centres in the world – announced it was retracting six papers and correcting 31 of them after David published a blog post on pubpeers.com outing the flaws in the publication images, which had been manipulated or duplicated. Much of this research had been carried out by the institutes top executives including the COO and research integrity officer.
