Student, Katie McGoran photographed in Bristol. Kate was worngfully arrested by the police at her home.

Katie McGoran for The Guardian, was wrongfully arrested after she attended ‘kill the bill’ protests in Bristol. Four male, uniformed officers tricked their way into her student house by pretending to be postal workers. The officers burst into her bedroom, where she was held in handcuffs for more than 20 minutes, while wearing only a short dressing gown. Body cam footage shows the police did not introduce themselves or explain why they were there and that Katie was clearly “shocked and distressed”.

An investigation by Avon and Somerset Police, concluded that it was unacceptable for officers to keep her in handcuffs, when they realised she was not the right person. None of the officers will face disciplinary action.
