Brithdir Mawr // Guardian G2

Brithdir Mawr in Pembrokeshire, Wales shot for The Guardian G2. The community of 10 adults and 7 children is set among 32 hectars of ancient woodland, coppice and pasture. It is one of the self-sufficient woodland communities in Britain, who are radically embracing an ethos of permaculture. Heather Baker and her partner, George, have lived at Brithdir Mawr since 2019. Their daughter, Ursa, was born in the community. Heather, who originally worked in mental health, when living in Scotland, says she “saw so much isolation in new mothers; I wanted to bring up my own children as part of a tribe, with other adults and children to help raise them.”
